Inch Flat - Chapter Two

Today was like any other, wake up, do chores, go to lessons, do more chores. Then have dinner with Rosey. Only after my evening chores, Rosey had left a note telling me she would be late and to get dinner off the cooker. Oh and she had added “get to bed on time, you have lessons tomorrow.” Now why would she add that? I had been on time for all of my lessons for the last 3 weeks. I suppose she knew me too well. She must have sensed my caged Lion feeling. I hated lessons! I wanted to be free to roam the flat to discover what lie outside the boundaries. Thorn had set the boundaries for us flora. Some of us felt we had a right to know what else existed on the outside. One time Violet and I had ventured right up to one of the boundaries and then Heather saw us and told on us. She is such a fool. Of course Thorn made a special visit that night to Rosey. I was excused, of course, but I listening under the morning glory pots and heard him say “you know if she crosses she can never come back.” That was enough information for me, so when Rosey called me in for dinner I told her I had been to the boundary and had tried to look over it but that I did not see anything worth my time and came home. She only looked at me with her loving emerald eyes and said “If you are to go, I will let you leave, but understand that I will never care for another.” Then she hugged me and went to bed. That was very unusual, but I never ventured back to the boundary. To cause Rosey pain was not in any of my plans. I loved her and even if Thorn was a ‘thorn’ in my side with all his rules, something in her face scared me about the boundaries, something very wrong.

Inch Flat - Chapter One

Inch Flat

The first thing I remember was the curly wild locks of Auburn hair and those shimmering emerald eyes. Rose reached down and said “I’ve been waiting for you.”

Rose was my caregiver she was warm and strong and she loved me no matter what. Rose was a Perennial. She had been here since her entrance. She would never leave and would always stay on this flat. All of the caregivers were Perennials. They would set the laws, guide the flora and manage the flat. I lived with Rose or ‘Rosey’ as I often called her. We lived in her cottage. It was one of the best on our flat. She let me help with the seasonal change and even let me get away with missing my lessons when the moon was full. “Edelweiss” she would say “get ready for the beams; we are gonna collect as much as we can.” It was really funny because we couldn't really catch them, but I guessed the feeling she got after a Moon Rev was her way of ‘collecting the beams.’ For me it was like a special pocket inside my chest had been filled with light that only I could feel. The Moon Revs lasted for 3 nights from Moon up to Moon down. If I missed my lessons other than those times Rosey would usually get a visit from Thorn. And although I know she did not like those visits she never yelled at me or said anything about what he said except that I “must promise to arrive early for lessons until the next Moon Rev”. She knew if I said it I would do it. I would never go back on my word especially not to Rosey.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! SO I know my blog is somewhat boring... but in time I expect it will pick up. Many of you know just busy I am with  full time job, kids, husband (yes he is somewhat a drain on my energy ;-o). I have been really considering writing my book in my blog... Any thoughts?
